St. Pat’s was last week so it only makes sense to show a clip or two from this great John Ford movie about an Irish-American boxer that moves to the Emerald Isle, fleeing his pugilistic sin of having killed a man in the sport. But the conflict he seeks to evade rears its head in this peaceful land of verdant green until he must fight, not just his opponent (his brother in law!) but his own murderous impulses.
Impossible to find the entire ten-minute fight scene online due to copyright reasons, but here’s a good clip from Turner Classic Movies.com and as a consolation here’s the Dropkick Murphys’ “Barroom Hero.” Happy St. Pat’s, ya rummies!
